"Presentation Tools"

Presentation Tools

Prezi is an example of a presentation tool which can make your presentations look more professional and it can help keep the intended audience interested. This tool also allows you to collaborate with colleagues in real time, on the same canvas even if they are not in the same time zone. You can also share your projects online or on your mobile phone by using Prezi. You can also design stunning visuals that connect with your audience that will allow you to present the topic with an interested audience. This tool is similar to PowerPoint but it is much better, you can convert those old PowerPoints and with Prezi you can add images, video, 3D and animation. It is easy to learn and it is a great asset to have.

This presentation software was launched in 2009 by co-founders Adam Somlai-Fischer, Peter Halacsy and Peter Arvai. Since then this software has been used for various things and has helped many different people with different professions. A teacher can use this software to create interesting slides that get the point across than use a boring slide with just words on it. Prezi allows the user to zoom in, zoom out and do many other things to the presentation as it’s happening in order to keep the audience interested. It’s the same thing for the business world. People who are marketing an idea need to express their point and their view through evidence and this presentation tool can help those people achieve that. Many people can work together with this tool and it is not that difficult to learn making it essential for people who need to share information.

Prezi also allows the user to make graphs and add visual applications that further interest the audience. This tool can be used for social purposes but it is mainly used by teachers, students or business people. In addition, people can just use this application to intrigue their audience in what they are trying to show them. Besides graphs and pictures, videos can also be embedded and watched within the side. When you use a presentation tool, it is not widely used for recreational purposes; it can be, however, used for entertainment and news purposes. A presentation can be made using graphs to express the population size, or issues in the community. It can also be used to show funny videos if the creator wants to embed them into the presentation which can be considered an entertainment purpose.

Prezi, however, is not the only presentation tool out there. There are many other presentation tools out there that may not have the same exact features but they do have a lot of similarities. Some examples of more presentation tools include PreSentit, SlideRocket, 280 Slides, and Empressor and many more. Even Google Docs is a presentation tool. Just like Prezi, Empressor and all the other presentation tools are used to enhance your presentation and intrigue your audience more. However, some presentation tools have more features than others. Some can allow you to record your voice, or create your presentation into a teaching format. But overall, they each help make the presentation look better and they each enhance the presentation. This is why Prezi is an example of a presentation tool.

"Google Docs"

Google Docs

Being able to create, edit and store documents and spreadsheets is the main purpose of Google Docs, a free Web-based application. Instead of emailing different drafts to people you are working with, the original creator of the document can just put it on Google Docs and they can add emails on to the site, allowing only certain people to view the document. This feature also allows the creator of the document to see who made changes and what they were. Google Docs is overall faster and more efficient than just plain emailing and attaching the requested information. It also causes no risk of total data loss as a result of a localized catastrophe, but there is some suspicion by some authors that their documents they created are not as private as they should be.

Instead of using Microsoft for creating documents and spreadsheets Google Docs contains a fully featured word processor, spreadsheet and presentation application. This Web-based application is part of Google Apps which are applications that can help your business work smarter. Google Docs is also great for small businesses who want to reduce their start-up and running costs. Businesses no longer need to worry about data loss and all someone needs in order to edit a document is the internet. You can invite people to collaborate with you on a specific document but you can still access the original document without the editing.

This application can also be used for social reasons. Some reasons include the need to share information about a specific topic or event coming up in your community, or just to create a spreadsheet that provides some support to your claim. There are many ways you can use Google Docs as long as you realize the full potential of it while most people don’t. People today don’t really use Google Docs for entertainment or news purposes as much they use it for business but it could be of use when you did not save a document and can’t find it. All you have to do is search for it and it will most likely pop up. Many people can write stories on this application that you may be able to see if the author of the document allows you, but some of the information may not be correct. Or it might just be irrelevant. People can abuse the power to share information and this information might not be something that should be shared but it happens anyway.

Along with entertainment and news purposes, recreational purposes are not the main focus of Google Docs. Recreational means used for fun or games but this application is not used for these things. The main reason why it was created was to make sharing and editing documents with other people easier. This application achieved that purpose and it is a real asset to have in the business world.

"Facebook"

Facebook

One of the world’s most popular social networking website, Facebook, allows you to connect and share information with your friends and family online. Facebook was created by Mark Zuckerberg while he was enrolled at Harvard University, and he had the intention of creating Facebook for the use of college students. However, by 2006, two years after it was made, this website allowed anyone over the age of 13 to create an account. Facebook could be described as a communication and sharing website, this means people can decide how much information they want to put out there with knowing the consequences. Users send a request to be a “friend” with another person and that person can either accept it allowing the other user to see their information they put on the site, or they can deny. Facebook has many more features including apps, pokes, and it allows you to see updates and posts from friends as well as chat with them via the site. By becoming a Facebook user many great opportunities can arise, as well as many not so good opportunities.

Facebook can be used for many business purposes. Some of these things include, establishing a business account, connecting to users and sharing the companies’ ideas through Facebook. This networking site also has a feature that allows an owner of a business to create a group or a fan page where people can easily invite their friends to join the group and in turn they receive more feedback about their products. However, these features of this site can be used to share resourceful or meaningful information to help businesses; people create fake pages or fake groups. These can be made by a virus that was created or by someone who wants to mess with some people. Facebook is also used for social reasons. A member of this site can like a certain page which can tell them what’s the weather today, or you can put where you work on your profile page as well as where you live and went to school. Some people can use this information about you to see if they have something in common and want to be your friend, but other people can use this information to stalk you or potentially harm you.

Along with business and social uses, this social networking site can be used for entertainment and news purposes as well. Although some people use this network to help launch their business, most people use it to talk with their friends or entertain them when they are bored. Entertainment can include anything from articles to games. While on this website you can play any games that you download and you can watch any video that is posted on the site. These games however, create a third party. This is risking your privacy just because you want to have fun. Also, any video you post yourself can be used against you. Articles can also be posted and shared throughout the website which can potentially give you news about your society or other people’s lives.

One of the main uses of Facebook is using it for recreational needs. People today use this site mainly to talk to their friends, post pictures of them to get a lot of likes and comments, to play games and just overall get entertained. The users today, although this network is fun to use, don’t know the risk they are putting themselves in. Any member of this site can be in potential danger of identity theft or miss use of information. Some random person can create a fake profile and they may not be who you think they are. You also run the risk of losing a job. If you are applying for college or for a job in your suggested field, you may not get it. If the person you are being interviewed by asks to see your profile on Facebook and you have inappropriate photos and videos of yourself and other people it is likely that you won’t get the job or get in to the college you are applying to. Facebook has many great aspects to it but today it’s mainly used for communication and recreational purposes rather than business purposes.

"LinkedIn"

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is defined as a networking site that allows you to build your own professional identity and find the correct path that can help you with future opportunities. This business-focused site was created by Reid Hoffman in 2002 and was launched in 2003. It was created with the intention of helping people network professionally. A user of this site can “connect” to others. There are different degrees of connecting, connecting with someone who you know such as a close friend, or connecting with someone that you know from a close friend, or you can connect even further from there. There are many opportunities that rise when connecting to others for professional purposes; some include using those connections that you have just established to recommend others for a job, or you can be recommended by someone else. The further you connect with others the more it will help you in the business world. LinkedIn also allows you to develop your own personal profile page. However, it can be seen by anyone who is registered to this site.

From a business perspective, this networking site can help a user in the future job industry. By having great connections with many other users, you can potentially be recruited for a job. This site also allows users to create different pages, for example, a company page or a career page.  A company page can tell your company’s story, engage the followers, share career opportunities and it allows others to explore companies of interest. A career page is similar in that it gives you access to a full suite of features from promoting careers in your company. So say you have great connections, you are able to find out more about the people and organizations you do or would potentially do business with. However, if you are creating a page for your business, you don’t want to put too much information out there it because it may do more harm than good to your organization.

Unlike business purposes, LinkedIn doesn’t have that many social purposes, but it does have a few. You can build your own brand and profile that you share with others; you can search for work and get valuable information, and overall just expand your network by getting in touch with other people thus decreasing the friction of communication. This site is also used for entertainment and news purposes. It allows users to get the latest news and it also allows them to connect with entertainment businesses, if they so desire. You can also download LinkedIn’s app for your mobile phone or Ipad so you can use this site whenever you need. By using this you can also use this site to find out what’s going on daily with companies, partners or products.

This networking site, overall, has no real recreational purpose. It was created to help people in the business world. Examples are being recruited for a job, finding out what’s going on with other’s organization and allowing a person to get more information about that company. This also means that, depending on your connections, you can influence your work in the field. However, users must make sure the information that is put on this site is accurate so they are not mislead by false statistics or false advertising. For the same reason, they also must make sure they put the right amount of information on their page.

"Twitter"

Twitter

Twitter is described as an information network that can connect someone to the latest stories, ideas, opinions and news about interesting topics and other people. Twitter originally started off as a Podcasting company before it became what it is today. Twitter is almost like a blog, but each post has a 140 character limit. These posts are called Tweets. You can also Retweet other people’s comments, use hashtags and scroll through others feed. You have the power to follow whomever you want and it can provide you information that interests you. This means Twitter can be used for business, social, entertainment, news and recreational purposes. It is found all over the world even with the mobile app, people post daily about their lives or products. This could give the reader more insight to what a company has to offer or it can help someone get to know another person better. However, this technology can be abused and used for other inappropriate things.

Twitter can be used for business purposes. Some of these purposes are good while some of them are bad. This network allows businesses to reach out to customers and share quick information about their product or businesses. This also means businesses can receive feedback about their products. Say a new company wanted to explain what their product does, they could insert a link into a tweet so a person who’s interested in that topic will look at it and get even more information. However, this means that a tweet is so short that the owners of the product may not be able to fully describe the product, so some people may just scroll past their comment. Twitter is also used for social purposes. Since this is a social network, you can see what other people post and you can find out a lot about a person by what they post on their feed. By using Twitter you can have short conversations, or find out what is happening in your community and society. This can keep you aware of what is going on in you day to day life that you may want to pay attention to.

More uses of the networking site, Twitter, include entertainment and news. Many celebrities use Twitter and they tweet about things too. This means many people can see what a celebrity is up to if they post something. These posts can be about whatever they want but they run the risk of what they posted being used against them. Again this is saying that whatever is posted on this website cannot be taken down and it can be used against you. People can abuse the use of twitter for entertainment, however. They may post inappropriate pictures of themselves or other people. On the other hand, entertainment and news are kind of similar in the way users can access these subjects through Twitter. A follower can go on to Twitter and follow a page where it can tell them about the weather, politics and recent events if they would like. This is something good but people again can abuse the power of Twitter and make false statements which some people may believe. With politics, it’s a very touchy topic and may offend some people. It can ruin relationships.

Twitter is also used for recreational purposes. This includes things that are mainly for fun between friends. You can message other people and just post random comments about your day or post funny pictures. A negative to posting pictures is that people today post inappropriate things such as, pornography. This is an inappropriate use of this networking site and there could be many more abuses of Twitter out there but this is a major one. Also, you can learn more about a person you a following but it also means it doesn’t give that person a lot of privacy because whatever is posted on the internet never goes away. Say for instance, you write a mean comment or something racist you can create some enemies. In addition, a nasty comment about something or some person can back fire and be used against you. Overall, there are many useful tactics about Twitter, but some people abuse this site.
