"LinkedIn"

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is defined as a networking site that allows you to build your own professional identity and find the correct path that can help you with future opportunities. This business-focused site was created by Reid Hoffman in 2002 and was launched in 2003. It was created with the intention of helping people network professionally. A user of this site can “connect” to others. There are different degrees of connecting, connecting with someone who you know such as a close friend, or connecting with someone that you know from a close friend, or you can connect even further from there. There are many opportunities that rise when connecting to others for professional purposes; some include using those connections that you have just established to recommend others for a job, or you can be recommended by someone else. The further you connect with others the more it will help you in the business world. LinkedIn also allows you to develop your own personal profile page. However, it can be seen by anyone who is registered to this site.

From a business perspective, this networking site can help a user in the future job industry. By having great connections with many other users, you can potentially be recruited for a job. This site also allows users to create different pages, for example, a company page or a career page.  A company page can tell your company’s story, engage the followers, share career opportunities and it allows others to explore companies of interest. A career page is similar in that it gives you access to a full suite of features from promoting careers in your company. So say you have great connections, you are able to find out more about the people and organizations you do or would potentially do business with. However, if you are creating a page for your business, you don’t want to put too much information out there it because it may do more harm than good to your organization.

Unlike business purposes, LinkedIn doesn’t have that many social purposes, but it does have a few. You can build your own brand and profile that you share with others; you can search for work and get valuable information, and overall just expand your network by getting in touch with other people thus decreasing the friction of communication. This site is also used for entertainment and news purposes. It allows users to get the latest news and it also allows them to connect with entertainment businesses, if they so desire. You can also download LinkedIn’s app for your mobile phone or Ipad so you can use this site whenever you need. By using this you can also use this site to find out what’s going on daily with companies, partners or products.

This networking site, overall, has no real recreational purpose. It was created to help people in the business world. Examples are being recruited for a job, finding out what’s going on with other’s organization and allowing a person to get more information about that company. This also means that, depending on your connections, you can influence your work in the field. However, users must make sure the information that is put on this site is accurate so they are not mislead by false statistics or false advertising. For the same reason, they also must make sure they put the right amount of information on their page.
