"Facebook"

Facebook

One of the world’s most popular social networking website, Facebook, allows you to connect and share information with your friends and family online. Facebook was created by Mark Zuckerberg while he was enrolled at Harvard University, and he had the intention of creating Facebook for the use of college students. However, by 2006, two years after it was made, this website allowed anyone over the age of 13 to create an account. Facebook could be described as a communication and sharing website, this means people can decide how much information they want to put out there with knowing the consequences. Users send a request to be a “friend” with another person and that person can either accept it allowing the other user to see their information they put on the site, or they can deny. Facebook has many more features including apps, pokes, and it allows you to see updates and posts from friends as well as chat with them via the site. By becoming a Facebook user many great opportunities can arise, as well as many not so good opportunities.

Facebook can be used for many business purposes. Some of these things include, establishing a business account, connecting to users and sharing the companies’ ideas through Facebook. This networking site also has a feature that allows an owner of a business to create a group or a fan page where people can easily invite their friends to join the group and in turn they receive more feedback about their products. However, these features of this site can be used to share resourceful or meaningful information to help businesses; people create fake pages or fake groups. These can be made by a virus that was created or by someone who wants to mess with some people. Facebook is also used for social reasons. A member of this site can like a certain page which can tell them what’s the weather today, or you can put where you work on your profile page as well as where you live and went to school. Some people can use this information about you to see if they have something in common and want to be your friend, but other people can use this information to stalk you or potentially harm you.

Along with business and social uses, this social networking site can be used for entertainment and news purposes as well. Although some people use this network to help launch their business, most people use it to talk with their friends or entertain them when they are bored. Entertainment can include anything from articles to games. While on this website you can play any games that you download and you can watch any video that is posted on the site. These games however, create a third party. This is risking your privacy just because you want to have fun. Also, any video you post yourself can be used against you. Articles can also be posted and shared throughout the website which can potentially give you news about your society or other people’s lives.

One of the main uses of Facebook is using it for recreational needs. People today use this site mainly to talk to their friends, post pictures of them to get a lot of likes and comments, to play games and just overall get entertained. The users today, although this network is fun to use, don’t know the risk they are putting themselves in. Any member of this site can be in potential danger of identity theft or miss use of information. Some random person can create a fake profile and they may not be who you think they are. You also run the risk of losing a job. If you are applying for college or for a job in your suggested field, you may not get it. If the person you are being interviewed by asks to see your profile on Facebook and you have inappropriate photos and videos of yourself and other people it is likely that you won’t get the job or get in to the college you are applying to. Facebook has many great aspects to it but today it’s mainly used for communication and recreational purposes rather than business purposes.
